On Friday, October 18, 2019, over two hundred Miami-Dade County Public School (M-DCPS) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)* student leaders from 22 secondary schools came together at the Annual FBLA Officers’ Training Conference at Tropical Park. The conference kicked off with a roll-call of the schools and an introduction from the chapter presidents who shared their FBLA school chapter goals for 2019-2020.
Students participated in a series of leadership and team-building activities designed to help them develop their business leadership, networking, and social skills. Mixed groups were created and in their groups, one of the activities they tackled was how to build a bridge that could hold a toy car with a weight similar to a mobile telephone. Through this activity, students solved a complex problem, delegated roles and responsibilities, established a shared identity with other group members, received social support and encouragement to take risks, and held each other accountable for their final product. All teams presented their bridges, and the five winning teams will be announced at the FBLA Leadership Breakfast on November 13, 2019. To wrap up the day, students joined in the scavenger hunt were they took selfies with their group and other student groups.
