Career Technical Education
M-DCPS Career Technical Education (CTE) is impacting the lives of Miami-Dade County students preparing them to be college and career ready through programs of study and career pathways aligned to Career Clusters. CTE students graduate with world-class academic and technological skills, plus industry-recognized certifications necessary to transition to higher education and careers.
CTE students may also earn free college credits through dual enrollment, college and technical center articulation agreements or achievement of a state-articulated industry certification.
CTE Advisory Boards collaborate with educators to link education and the workforce and to build a future pipeline for the Miami workforce. To get involved, contact Ann Fields at 305-693-3030.
Industry certifications are an important component of Career Academies and CTE Programs verifying that students have demonstrated technical skill attainment. Select industry certifications have been approved at the state level for free college credits awarded to students.
Career academies combine a college-preparatory curriculum with a career-themed focus. Students enrolled in career academies follow a sequential program of study that leads to industry certification and opportunities to earn post-secondary credit and scholarships. Students choose career academies from 16 career clusters, thus allowing them to make the successful transition between high school, college, and careers.
Over 60 M-DCPS high school career academies are members of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), an acclaimed national network of high school career academies predominately based in urban districts with rigorous, career-themed curricula created with current industry and educational expertise.
M-DCPS offers 62 programs in the four career themes of Engineering, Finance, Health Sciences, Hospitality & Tourism, and Information Technology at 30 high schools.
Free College Credit
Articulation agreements allow students to earn college or technical center credits from participation in a high school CTE program of study. M-DCPS has articulation agreements with Miami Dade College, M-DCPS Technical Centers and other local institutions.
Select industry certifications have been approved at the state level for free college credits awarded to students.
