On March 7, 2017, after a partnership between Miami Dade College and Oracle Academy, girls from local middle schools and high schools were taught how to code to reduce the severe shortage of women in computer-science and other technology-related fields. This event involved faculty and students from MDC’S renowned School of Engineering and Technology to help guide the students through programming workshops and serve as judges, which includes training and receiving project pitches from the participants.
Hialeah Gardens Middle School 8th grade students Jordan Bryant and Isabela Castillo receive recognition for their coding project at this event.
